How could a Muslim reach the rank of the people of Allah?
Reciting or memorizing the Book of Allah is not enough. A Muslim must strive to act upon the teachings of the Qur’an. When one reflects upon the meanings of the Qur’an, he/she will find the answers and guidance to all life’s hardships and complications. Understating the Qur’an will make one reach the level of ihsan and also get closer to Allah. Almighty Allah says:
This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded. (Sad 38:29)
We also read in the Qur’an:
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction. (An-Nisaa’ 4:82)
Today’s episode of “40 Hadith pertaining to the Virtues & Rulings of the Qur’an” sheds some light on the following hadith (Prophetic tradition):
Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘Allah has His own people among mankind.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, who are they?’ He said: ‘The people of the Qur’an, the people of Allah and those who are closest to Him.'” (Ibn Majah and Ahmed)
This hadith reflects the great status of those who take the Qur’an as a companion in all aspects of life. Almighty Allah elevates their rank and makes them as His close slaves. To be among the people of the Qur’an (Ahl Al-Qur’an), one has to not just recite or memorize but rather reflect and act upon its teachings.
