The One Who Struggles in Recitation

Reciting and reflecting upon the verses of the Qur’an are of great rewards. They bring one closer to Allah, the Mighty. The Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite it day and night. People passed by them at night, while they were reciting the Qur’an, and their recitation seemed like the buzzing of bees. Allah says:

Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allah and establish prayer and spend [in His cause] out of what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, [can] expect a profit that will never perish. That He may give them in full their rewards and increase for them of His bounty. Indeed, He is Forgiving and Appreciative. (Fatir 35: 29-30)

Today’s episode of “40 Hadith pertaining to the Virtues & Rulings of the Qur’an” sheds some light on the following hadith (Prophetic tradition):

`A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Such a person as recites the Qur’an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur’an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward.” (Al-Bukhari)

This hadith shows the rewards of the reciter of the Qur’an who does not know the rules of recitation (tajweed), and for that reason cannot read it fluently. In spite of this, he has to do great effort to recite it correctly. He will be given double reward, one for the difficulty encountered in reciting it, and another for reading it. The hadith also indicates that the rank of the one who keeps on reciting the Qur’an is higher than the one who does not keep on reading it.

Enjoy watching this interesting talk with Ustadh Almoghir Ali to know the great rewards of reciting the Qur’an and the double reward for the one who struggles in recitation.
