Correct Your Recitation (82)

Correct Your Recitation with Dr. Muhammad Salah

Almighty Allah says:

…and recite the Qur’an with measured recitation. (Al-Muzzammil 73:4)

In another verse:

Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital. They [are the ones who] believe in it. (Al-Baqarah 2:121)

Welcome to a new interesting episode of “Correct Your Recitation” series with Sheikh Muhammad Salah and his guests. First Sheikh Isma`il recites the full surah of Al-`Adiyat (the Courser) and Al-Qari`ah (the Calamity). Surat Al-`Adiyat is the 100th chapter of the Qur’an with eleven verses. It was revealed in Makkah. The surah reflects the disastrous consequences of denying or neglecting the Hereafter. It also warns people that they will be held accountable for not only their visible and apparent deeds but also their hidden secrets in their hearts.

Surat Al-Qari`ah is the 101st chapter of the Qur’an with eleven verses. It is a Makkan surah. It is one of the names of the Day of Judgment like Al-Haqqah, At-Tamma, etc. The surah describes the resurrection and the horror of the Day of Judgment.

As usual Dr. Muhammad Salah begins his talk by reflecting on the meanings of the verses, and explains the cause of revelation of surat Al-`Adiyat. Ibn Jarir says: “Of the two views this view is preferable that by “those who run” horses are implied, for the camel does not breathe hard in running, it is the horse which does so, and Allah has said: “By those runners which pant and breathe hard in running.” Imam Razi says: “The words of these verses proclaim that horses are meant, for the sound of dabh (panting breath) is only produced by the horses, and the act of striking sparks of fire with the hoofs too is associated with the horses, and, likewise, mounting of a raid early at dawn is easier by means of the horses than by other animals.” Then Dr. Muhammad receives the phone calls of the viewers to correct their recitation.

Enjoy watching this interesting talk with Dr. Muhammad Salah to know new rules of tajweed.
