The Name As-Salam
He is Allah , the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (Al-Hashr 59:27)
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is witr (one) and loves ‘the witr‘ (i.e., odd numbers).” (Al-Bukhari)
Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues his commentary on the Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah Almighty. He explains the concept of ‘As-Salam’ and its derivatives which has been mentioned in the Qur’an. The name As-Salam has three meanings as follows:
1- To be free from imperfection and deficiencies;
2- To grant the ultimate peace for His creatures; and
3- To greet the believers in Him with the greeting of salam.
This name occurs only one time in the Qur’an as we read,
He is Allah , other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection. (Al-Hashr 59:23
