Respecting parents is one of the most significant aspects of Islam. The Almighty Allah says:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. (Al-Isra’ 17:23)
In the same manner, parents should do their best to shield their children form all the negative things that can influence their behaviors. Parents have to be conscious and take a significant role in guiding their children to the way of truth. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Every one of your (people) is responsible, and everyone is responsible for whatever falls under his responsibility. A man is like a shepherd of his own family, and he is responsible for them…” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Here, Sheikh Abdul Nasir Jangda reflects on two verses from Surat (Aal-`Imran) to remind us with some important lessons regarding parents in light of the story of Maryam (Mary, the mother of Jesus). He begins his talk by mentioning the high status of Lady Mary as one of the prominent figures mentioned in the Qur’an. Then, he mentions some tips that may help our children grow up with Islamic values.
