In this short talk, Sheikh Nouman Khan explains the following verse from Surat Al-Fath (the 48th Chapter of the Qur’an) in which the Almighty Allah says:
It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers… (Al-Fath 48:4)
He begins his talk by focusing on the word “into”. In another verse in the same Surah, Allah says:
He sent tranquility upon them… (Al-Fath 48:18)
So, Allah mentions that tranquility is inside and upon their hearts. Allah, the Almighty, speaks about two central negative sentiments of the heart, fear and grief. First, anger is described as something that rages inside one’s heart and does not go away but stays. It did not just overcome the person at one time rather it is installed, so you have to uninstall it.
Muslims would travel all the way from Madinah to make Hajj (pilgrimage to the Ka`bah). Did they get to make Hajj at Hudaibiyah? The Answer is “No”!! So, what is in their hearts? It is Anger and frustration. In their case, tranquility was needed in their hearts.
Second, Fear is something felt in the skin, on one’s entire body, or something that overcomes one’s heart. But once the scary situation is over, one goes to the normal state. Then, Sheikh Nouman goes on to demonstrate the event when the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his beloved companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) were in the cave while the investigators of the disbelievers were looking for them, trying to kill them. This is a situation of fear, so the Almighty Allah sent tranquility upon them.
